Public conveniences get top priority at Surajkund Mela

The acclaimed calendar event of Haryana Tourism, the 30th Surajkund International Crafts Mela, will be celebrated from 1st -15th February 2016 at Surajkund, Faridabad. The Mela showcases the richness and diversity of the handicrafts, handlooms and the cultural heritage of India. This festival has come to occupy a place of pride and prominence, attracting more than a million domestic and foreign visitors during the Mela fortnight.

Dr Sumita Misra, Principal Secretary to Government, Haryana, Tourism Department stated that new initiatives are being undertaken by engaging agencies that offering modernday solutions for the convenience of visitors.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Research Foundation, New Delhi is installing sanitary napkin vending machine at four ladies toilet blocks in the Surajkund Mela grounds. These machines will be operated by female volunteer of CSRRF and maintenance, distribution and supply of the vending machine will be taken care of by CSR Research Foundation. The distribution will exclusively be to visitors free of cost and no brand promotion of the companies will be permissible.

Also Swatcch Bharat Swatcch Haryana Abhiyaan is followed in principle at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela for keeping the Mela environs spanking clean. The public conveniences at the Mela are spot on. This time, five mobile toilet vans have been installed and there are over dozen toilets including e-toilets. There will be safai karamcharis stationed all the time to maintain high standards of hygiene.

Further for the convenience of the visitors, two water ATMs have been installed in the Mela premises that will supply mineral water.

Sincere efforts are being made by Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism to make every visitor’s trip to Surajkund Mela a pleasurable one.
